Connect, Heal, Save

~Behavior and Enrichment Services~

K9Rewild aims to provide a deeper understanding. By utilizing positive, science-backed methodology, I look to build trust, agency and freedom. To help guardians and caregivers, better understand our four legged friends. How we can have better communication, deepen our bonds, and achieve true welfare. This is not about obedience. It’s about meeting each individual dogs needs. We are not training, but teaching. Through gentle guidance, we will achieve true healing. So let’s connect, on a deeper level, heal from tramas, and save our dogs.

Approach

The H.E.A.L Framework

Health: Veterinary care, Nutrition, Underlining pain, History of illness/injury/trauma, Stress, Anxiety

Environment: Management, Enrichment, Safety, Rest/Sleep..

Assessment: Data Collection, Guardian knowledge, Identifying triggers, Motivation..

Learning: Nervous System Regulation, Creating positive coping strategies/associations, Compromises.

Shelter Aid:

This service offers hands on guidance for behavior cases, shelter member education, and outing options for residents.

Staff &Volunteer classes: From evidence-based training, to hands-on coaching, kennel routines, or playgroup integration and protocols, to defensive handling. I offer classes on shelter behavior, enrichment plans , and guidance on various areas needed, just ask away! Here, your team will learn skills to provide a calmer, safer, and higher functioning environment.

Shelter resident rehab: I offer board and train for shelter residents only. This is where I will foster a behavior case, and give them the love and guidance they need to aid in their success.

Outings: Does a resident at your shelter need a “doggie’s day out?” For either a 1/2 or full day, I will take a pup out on adventure of their liking. After all safety measures are gone over, a day will be planned out for that individual. They will then be given a full report upon return. This is an amazing opportunity to learn more about your dogs, and give them a breath of fresh air away from the environment.

Playgroup 101: Whether your organization already has a playgroup, or looking to start one. I will teach your team how to safely structure dog intros, ready body language, what safety tools to have, and more. Playgroup is an amazing tool to offer to our resident, by enhancing quality of stay, to learning more about an individual to aid in adoption.

Trainer/Behavior Consultant Mentorship: Don’t have a behavior team? Providing at least one individual with behavior and training knowledge can strengthen welfare for residence and staff. Thought hands on guidance, I will teach skills from basic learning theory, to kennel enrichment, and shelter specific behavior plans. Resources will also be given for further education, and skills. This will provide knowledge that can be spread to the rest of the team ,to implement together.

Rescue Rehab:

Unlike 1 hour sessions, learning happens in frequent early day moments. By making a plan and coaching along the way, we look to achieve long term success.

My Specialties:

Rescue Integration: Brining home a rescue can be a very rewarding experience. Yet sometimes, can present concerning challenges. Before they even come home, we will go over how to welcome them to their new space and help set them up for success.

Behavior Modification: Does you pup have some “big feelings” ? Whether it’s Fear, Anxiety, Aggression, or other concerning behaviors. I provide gentle guidance towards teaching you and your pup, to feel safe and confident in the world.

Individual Enrichment Plans: While still great tools, Enrichment is so much more than puzzles and lick mats. Many troubling behaviors actually stem from unmet needs we may not be aware of. With individual plans, we will look to find outlets that fulfill your dog’s drive.

Rewild:

Reconnecting with nature and reclaiming a more primal way of life.”

Here is the root of K9Rewild, getting dogs and humans, back in nature to improve physical/mental well-being. This gives our companions the opportunity to be their free selves, explore, and strengthen bonds.

To archive this, we will focus on safe trail skills, instinctual games, and fun forest activities.

(It is important to note many of these skills start in the home. With practice, we will move our way to new environments.)

Main focus of this service:

Rocket Recall: One of the most crucial skills for wild wondering. Build a solid recall with an emergency call for your off leash locations.

Predation Substitues: For those with a high prey motivation, this service is not to suppress, but give outlets and safely structure prey drive.

Cues for the trail: “Switch”, “Close”, “Trail” These are just a few of the helpful cues, we can teach our pups to stay safe on the trail. From avoiding eating things they shouldn’t, to sticking close by when needing to pass others. These cues will help set us and our pups up for success.

Forest Activities: ACE free work, doggie parkour, nose work, these are just a few of the activities we will learn to give our dogs fun outlets, build resilience and find out more of who they are, as an individual.

Future Service

K9Rewild is making some big plans for the future.

We are looking to provide an appointment only Behavior and Enrichment Center, where rehab, enrichment activities, free roaming, possible gear and treats, are available for shelter dogs, humans and their furry companions. This will be a safe place, to deepen the human and K9 bond, and provide a place for shelter residents to embrace agency, discover outlets and recenter. A place to try new things, explore, play, but most importantly take time to just.. be.

There is no date on this yet. With all that is needed to make this dream happen. Tis yet but a huge dream, for what K9Rewild has always hoped to be.

An all around safe space for not only K9s, but all animals (including humans) to rewild.

  • "I am so impressed with Mack and how she has handle Mars(a dog who exhibiting fear based aggression during attempted surrender) and immediately set up a plan. Without her help and integrity he very well would have euthanized as soon as he walked into our doors. Watching her with him outside for the first time brought me to tears. It was amazing to witness. The deep care and hope she has for these animals... She is amazing.
